Antique Langendorf Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Langendorf pocket watch.

The watch has a good quality 15-jewel stem-winding movement, identified as by Langendorf, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner cover which has some gentle unevenness.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made by the Star Watch Case Company. The front and sides of the case are in lovely condition, again some gentle unevenness to the back.

The acrylic lens has light marking.

The dial looks good to the naked eye… if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe, there is a short faint hairline on number 11. Original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Open-face pocket watches feature a dial without a protective metal cover, allowing the time to be read directly. Originating in the 18th century and widely produced through the Edwardian era, these timepieces became standard for railway conductors and everyday personal use due to their clear legibility.

Cases were typically crafted from solid gold, silver, or gold-filled rolled metal, housing precise mechanical movements. Dials were commonly made of fired white enamel with hand-painted numerals, paired with blued steel hands and glass crystals.

Authentic pieces generally feature manufacturer markings on the movement or inside the case back, along with serial numbers and material purity stamps. True antique dials are often vitreous enamel, displaying crisp lettering and sub-seconds dials at the six oclock position.

A pocket watch can be displayed under a glass cloche on a dedicated watch stand, placed on a desk tray alongside brass accessories, or presented framed within a shadow box to serve as a functional decorative object.

Mechanical watches require regular winding without over-tightening the mainspring and periodic cleaning by a specialist horologist. Keep the timepiece away from moisture, magnetic fields, and extreme temperature changes to protect the internal movement and delicate dial.
