Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II bureau bookcase is an 18th-century dual-purpose piece of case furniture featuring a chest of drawers, a slanted writing slope, and an upper cabinet for books, originating in Great Britain during the reign of King George II between 1727 and 1760.

Cabinetmakers primarily constructed the main framework from mahogany or oak, often finished with flame mahogany veneers. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used for drawer linings, complemented by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces typically display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-sawn timber marks, and original brass hardware showing natural oxidisation. Design details frequently include architectural elements like swan-neck pediments, carved shell motifs, and bracket feet.

Position the piece as a focal point in a home office, library, or living space, balancing its dark timber against neutral walls. Displaying contemporary ceramics or streamlined books within the upper cabinet creates a balanced mix of traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust regularly using a dry lint-free cloth and apply beeswax polish twice yearly following the wood grain. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp conditions to prevent timber movement, warping, or veneer damage.
