Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Trestle tables are among the earliest forms of wooden tables, dating back to the Middle Ages when demountable boards were placed over frames. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, variations incorporating cast metal or ornate brass bases became popular for commercial, utilitarian, and residential spaces.

These pieces generally combine slow-grown European or Scots pine timber for the tabletop with cast brass, bronze, or iron for the supporting trestle legs. The wooden elements are often finished with natural wax or oil, while the metal bases may feature cast detail.

Authentic period bases show clear signs of traditional casting processes, such as slight surface irregularities, hand-finished joinery, and natural patination or oxidisation on metal surfaces. Timber tops from earlier periods usually exhibit historical wear, shrinkage marks around grain lines, and original fixing points underneath.

A pine trestle table can be paired with contemporary dining chairs, such as mid-century molded seats or upholstered chairs, to create an engaging textural contrast. Incorporating simple ceramic tableware and minimal lighting helps highlight the warmth of the wood and the detail of the metalwork without cluttering the space.

Clean the pine surface regularly using a soft microfiber cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to maintain moisture in the wood. Metal bases should be dusted with a dry brush; avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip historical patina from cast brass or iron.
