Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, afternoon tea became an established social ritual, leading to an increased demand for dedicated silver hollowware such as cream jugs. Silversmiths created these vessels in various forms, often reflecting Neoclassical or Rococo Revival influences.

These vessels were wrought from sterling silver, an alloy containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper, for structural durability. The bodies were hand-raised or cast, with decorative handles and rims soldered to the vessel.

Authentic British sterling silver features a complete set of stamped hallmarks: a lion passant indicating silver purity, a town mark indicating the assay office, a date letter, and an official makers mark.

A silver cream jug can be styled on a sideboard, bar cart, or open kitchen shelving alongside contemporary ceramic or glass tableware. It can also serve as an occasional vessel for small floral arrangements.

Silver should be cleaned using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth to remove natural oxidisation. Pieces should be kept dry and stored in anti-tarnish cloth bags when not on display.
