Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A twin pedestal dining table features two central support columns resting on splayed legs rather than corner legs, providing unobstructed legroom. Popularised during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, this design often includes removable leaves to adjust the surface area for entertaining.

Early 19th-century dining tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers, valued for their durability and deep colour. Hardware such as clips, brass cap feet, and castors were typically made from cast brass to allow smooth mobility and secure extension mechanism attachment.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, original brass castors attached to splayed legs, and natural wear patterns on the mechanism runners beneath the top. Additionally, timber from this era often displays deep patination and distinct grain figure consistent with Cuban or Honduran mahogany.

Pairing a dark mahogany table with modern upholstered dining chairs creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary textures. Complementing the piece with minimalist tableware or contemporary lighting prevents the dining space from appearing overly formal.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber warping and finish fading. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to preserve the natural lustre of the finish.
