Made in high quality mahogany, it has a rich warm colour and a finely detailed inlaid frieze along the top edge, decorated with ribbon bow motifs, stylised flowers and tiny leaves in soft tones of gold, green and red. The cupboard originally had a small gallery at the back of the top surface, now lost, but the top itself remains in excellent condition with attractive visible grain. All of the original glass panels to the door and sides are still intact, which is rare for a piece of this age, and the original brass handle is present and working well. The original key has been lost, so the door no longer locks, but it opens and closes cleanly.

Inside, the shelves were originally glass but appear to have been replaced in the 1970s with wooden shelves that were later covered in a cream jacquard style fabric with a damask floral pattern. The fabric has a few age related marks, mostly on the middle shelf, but adds a gentle vintage charm. The cabinet stands evenly, the door is well aligned, and overall it is in lovely condition for a piece that is more than a century old.

This cupboard is suitable for many uses. It works well as a display cabinet for china, ceramics, glassware, collectables or small decorative items. It can also be used for books, ornaments, decanters or as a feature piece in a hallway, living room or dining room. In a bedroom or bathroom with controlled humidity it can store folded linens, perfumes or accessories, and it also makes an attractive display unit in a studio or shop setting. Its slim profile and restrained Edwardian detailing make it easy to place in both period and modern interiors.
