Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass candlesticks were widely produced throughout the nineteenth century across Britain, serving as primary domestic light sources before electric lighting became commonplace. Manufacturing expanded rapidly in metalworking centres such as Birmingham, producing standard domestic models as well as grander ecclesiastical designs.

Authentic nineteenth-century candlesticks were typically cast in brass using sand moulds, after which individual sections were turned on a lathe and joined using internal threaded steel rods. Bases were often weighted or fitted with core metal to provide stability.

Original pieces display subtle asymmetry from hand-finishing, lathe-turning marks on interior surfaces, and threaded steel or brass interior rods holding the sections together. Patina in crevices, minor surface wear, and heavy cast weight are additional indicators of age.

A pair of tall brass candlesticks creates visual structure on a dining table centrepiece, console table, or fireplace mantelpiece. They pair effectively with contemporary ceramics, dark timber surfaces, and linen textiles to contrast historic metalwork with modern textures.

Accumulated candle wax can be softened using warm water and removed with a non-abrasive wooden tool. Preserve the natural surface oxidisation by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, applying mild metal polish only when bright brass finishes are preferred.
