Antique Afghan Taimani Sistan Baluch 'Seh (Three) Mihrab' prayer rug.

Circa 1900.

This is a very good example of a seh-mihrab (three mihrab) prayer rug by the Taimani Baluch, the rug is well drawn and has an excellent natural colour palette. The Taimani Baluch were semi nomadic in the Sistan Provence of Western Afghanistan, this design of prayer rug is unique to them.

The rug is in good condition with even wear, and medium pile.

The rug is suitable for light domestic use.

These rugs are predominantly hand-knotted using hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and warp foundation, occasionally incorporating goat hair along the selvedges and natural dyes for colouring.
