Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gustavian style emerged in Sweden during the late 18th century, heavily influenced by French Neoclassicism. It is characterised by symmetrical lines, tapered fluted legs, geometric motifs, and light or muted painted finishes designed to maximise natural indoor light.

Pieces from this era were primarily constructed from native Scandinavian softwoods such as pine. Surfaces were finished with mineral-based distress paints or distemper washes, while drawer handles and escutcheons were typically cast in brass or iron.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed back panels, and wear consistent with age along painted surfaces and drawer runners. Multiple historical layers of paint or original distemper finishes are also common indicators.

The understated geometry and neutral palette of Gustavian furniture allow it to blend seamlessly into contemporary, minimalist, or classic schemes. Placing a pair on either side of a bed or aligning a single chest in a hallway creates structured balance.

Dust painted surfaces gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid chemical polishers, water, or abrasive cleaners that could strip historic paint layers, and position the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement.
