Silver caddy spoons were introduced during the eighteenth century to scoop loose tea leaves from caddies into teapots. As tea was an expensive commodity, silversmiths created small, elaborately decorated spoons specifically scaled to fit inside wooden or tea caddy boxes.

Georgian caddy spoons were primarily crafted from sterling silver, meeting the British standard of 925 parts per thousand pure silver. Silversmiths employed techniques such as die-stamping, hand-engraving, bright-cutting, and piercing to decorate the metal.

Authentic London silver pieces from this era feature a set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal: the leopards head town mark, the lion passant indicating sterling purity, a date letter, and the monarchs duty mark alongside the registered makers mark.

Small antique silver pieces can be displayed on a sideboard top within a shallow glass-topped showcase box or layered alongside dining tableware. Their compact size allows them to fit naturally into curios cabinets or framed display trays.

Clean silver using a soft microfibre cloth and a mild silver polish formulated to remove oxidisation without abrading the metal surface. Store pieces in anti-tarnish cloth bags away from direct moisture and humidity to prevent rapid tarnish.
