Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron doorstops became widely popular during the nineteenth century as foundry techniques advanced, allowing for mass production of detailed decorative items. They were designed to hold heavy internal timber doors open and were frequently styled after heraldic animals, classical figures, or architectural motifs.

These items were produced using sand casting, where molten iron was poured into two-part sand moulds formed from carved master patterns. After cooling, the iron casting was hand-finished to smooth rough edges and coated or painted to protect against oxidation.

Authentic period pieces feature crisp, finely detailed relief carving with minor surface irregularities typical of historical sand casting. They exhibit natural surface oxidisation or aged patina, visible seam lines along the sides, and a hollowed back or flat back section designed to reduce unnecessary weight.

A cast iron lion doorstop can be positioned beside a fireplace hearth, on an entryway floor to hold heavy doors, or atop a sturdy bookshelf as an architectural paperweight. Its dark metallic texture provides visual weight and contrast alongside natural wood or stone surfaces.

Keep the iron item in a dry environment to prevent active rust formation. Clean dust using a soft dry brush, and apply a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax or paste wax with a soft cloth to preserve the surface and protect against moisture.
