Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late 19th-century mahogany display cabinets are defined by solid wood frames, rich reddish-brown tones, glazed doors, and precision joinery. They were often crafted for high-end domestic interiors or commercial retail displays, featuring refined mouldings and decorative feet.

Victorian display furniture was constructed using dense hardwoods such as Cuban or Honduran mahogany, alongside float or plate glass panels. Joinery techniques included hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, and brass hardware fittings.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of natural age, including minor surface wear to the timber, original brass lock mechanisms, and historic glass with subtle imperfections. Commercial cabinetry often retains evidence of fixings, internal shelving adjustments, or bespoke signage.

A sign-written cabinet functions as a focal statement piece in a hallway, dining space, or study. Contrast its dark timber and typography against neutral walls, using the interior shelves to display books, glassware, or curated collections.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying beeswax occasionally along the grain. Clean the exterior glass carefully with a dampened cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals or direct moisture over hand-painted lettering.
