Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian kneehole desk is a compact writing table or dressing table introduced in the early 18th century. It features a flat top, a long upper drawer, and side pedestals containing drawers that frame a recessed central kneehole space, which often houses an additional small cupboard.

Primary woods during this period were dense, fine-grained mahogany, walnut, or oak. Drawer linings were usually made from secondary woods such as pine, oak, or poplar, while drawer pulls and escutcheons were cast from solid brass.

Authentic 18th-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, and original brass plate handles with threaded posts and cast nuts. Search for signs of natural timber shrinkage and age-appropriate wear around the base and drawer fronts.

Position the desk against a wall in a study, hallway, or bedroom to serve as a compact workspace or vanity table. Pair it with modern artwork above or contemporary lighting to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and cracking.
