Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian pedestal desks, popularised in 18th-century Britain, typically feature a symmetrical layout with two drawer-filled pedestals supporting a flat top writing surface. Design hallmarks include classical proportions, cockbeaded drawer fronts, brass swan-neck handles, and sturdy bracket feet.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian period primarily utilized dense Cuban and West Indian mahogany for visible surfaces due to its rich tone and fine grain. Drawer linings were typically constructed from pine or oak, fitted with hand-cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, uneven wear patterns consistent with age, and original brass escutcheons or handles with natural oxidisation. The underside and backboards should show hand-sawn timber marks rather than machine-cut precision.

A classic mahogany desk can be paired with a modern upholstered desk chair to create a balanced, eclectic workspace. Place a contemporary desk lamp on top and position the piece against a neutral backdrop to allow the deep wood tones to stand out.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing mahogany furniture in direct sunlight or adjacent to radiators to prevent wood shrinkage, warping, and finish fading.
