Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Eighteenth-century inspired mahogany dining chairs often feature pierced back splats incorporating neoclassical motifs such as anthemion crests, arched top rails, swept armrests, and straight or cabriole legs linked by sturdy stretchers.

Fine dining armchairs from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were constructed from solid mahogany, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, corner blocks beneath the seat frame, and hand-carved back splats.

Look for signs of hand-planing on the undersides, traditional corner blocks, secondary timber like pine or beech in the seat frames, and maker stamps or paper labels often placed on the rear seat rail.

Pair mahogany carver armchairs with a sleek modern dining table or place them as accent seating in a study or hallway to create visual contrast against neutral walls and contemporary textiles.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish annually along the wood grain, while vacuuming fabric upholstery gently with a soft brush attachment.
