We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A William IV mahogany wine cooler, also known as a cellarette, is a piece of freestanding dining room furniture produced during the reign of King William IV (18301837). Typically crafted in a sarcophagus shape with carved mouldings, it was designed to house and chill wine near the dining table.

These pieces were built using solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over secondary timbers. The interior originally contained lead or zinc linings with drainage outlets to hold ice and bottles, while the exterior featured hand-carved classical details and concealed castors.

Authentic William IV cellarettes exhibit design features such as architectural sarcophagus profiles, bold gadrooning or egg-and-dart mouldings, low bun feet, and hand-cut dovetail joinery. Traces of historical metal lining or original brass castors also indicate period construction.

A mahogany cellarette functions well in a dining room, hallway, or living space as a statement storage chest. It can serve as a low side table or be positioned in an alcove to add architectural character to contemporary schemes.

To preserve carved mahogany, dust the surface regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement or finish discolouration.
