Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bowfront chest of drawers is a storage cabinet originating in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, characterised by a convex curved front profile. This design served to soften the rectangular lines of traditional case furniture while providing ample drawer capacity.

These pieces were typically constructed with solid mahogany frames or pine secondary woods veneered with decorative flame mahogany. Construction methods feature hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints, cockbeaded drawer edges, and cast or stamped brass backplate handles.

Authentic period chests exhibit hand-sawn secondary timber, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, and shrinkage marks consistent with natural wood movement over time. Original brass locks, keyholes, and period-correct drawer runners also signal authenticity.

A mahogany chest of drawers can be placed in a hallway or bedroom as a focal storage piece. Balance the deep wood tones by placing light ceramic accessories or contemporary artwork directly above the surface.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent veneer cracking or fading.
