Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the Georgian and Regency eras, a bowfront chest features a gently convex curved front designed to soften room lines and maximise interior storage space. These pieces typically incorporate a two-short-over-three-long drawer configuration set upon bracket or splayed feet.

Authentic period examples were constructed using mahogany timbers, frequently veneered with flame mahogany on drawer fronts for symmetry. Cabinetmakers employed hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber linings, and cast brass oval backplate handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut, slightly irregular dovetail joints, hand-planed wood on the back panels, and original brass keyhole escutcheons. Genuine antiques display natural timber shrinkage, minor surface oxidisation, and patination consistent with age.

Position the chest against neutral walls painted in soft plaster tones to highlight the deep red timber hues. Balance the traditional profile by hanging modern minimalist artwork above or styling contemporary ceramic vessel shapes on the top surface.

Position the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and veneer movement. Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually, buffing along the grain.
