Antique Ardebil Rug with Perepedil Design

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Siez Gallery (Reserved for a buyer)
Description

This Ardebil rug has a sophisticated feel to it and a lovely desirable colour range. The main border displays elaborate flower heads and brackets in a kufic style, whilst smaller bands of blossoms create a subtle layer of natural harmony. This leads to the soft ivory field, that allows columns of ram horn motifs to rise like crowns of strength, in-between artistic depictions of camels and stars. Despite using elements from Caucasian rugs, this design remains distinctly North West Persian due to its construction.

Size: 182cm x 113cm

Age: Circa 1900

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Perepedil rugs are a distinct regional style originating from the Caucasus, characterised by geometric stylised motifs including prominent rams horn figures, detailed geometric borders, and high-contrast colour palettes.

These rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the warp or weft foundation, coloured primarily with natural plant and mineral dyes.

Authentic pieces feature hand-knotted wool construction, subtle dye variations known as abrash, slight asymmetrical variations in pattern execution, and flexible, soft wool backings.

A geometric tribal rug provides visual texture and historical contrast when paired with modern neutral upholstery, mid-century furniture, or dark wood flooring.

Vacuum gently using suction only without a rotating beat bar, rotate periodically to balance light exposure and traffic wear, and consult a professional textile conservator for deep cleaning.
