Lori Pambak Rug

19th century
Description

Here is a rug with some age to it, a feature of the older Kazaks is the quality of the dyes the later ones having a more restricted palette. This one has really strong colours with some lovely blues, greens and yellows decorating the red field. The whole field is covered in jewel like diamonds and hooked motifs interspersed with smaller motifs. The design appears symmetrical at first glance but it has some random elements too. I should point out that it is a fragment and has been reduced in size from the original which substantially reduces the price. These old Kazaks and I consider this to be around 150 years old are special and rare pieces and I think this ticks every box for the rug connossieur.

The rug is cut and shut, joined in the middle which has reduced its size markedly. It has been done quite well I should add. There is quite a lot of wear including a stress wear and crease at one end.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Lori Pambak rugs originate from the Caucasus region and are characterized by large octagonal medallions, stylized rams horn motifs, and bold geometric borders executed in primary colour palettes.

These rugs are hand-knotted using pure hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation, dyed with natural plant and mineral dyes.

Authentic pieces feature wool warps and wefts, hand-knotted construction with slight asymmetrical variations, bold tribal iconography, and natural dye mellowing over time.

The strong geometric patterns and vibrant colours serve as a focal point when placed over light wood floors in minimalist, traditional, or eclectic settings.

Regular vacuuming without a beater bar, prompt spot cleaning with neutral water, and periodic professional dry washing protect natural wool fibres from damage.
