Fine Isfahan Rug, Central Persia, Circa 1910, 2.14m X 1.42m

1900 - 1920
Description

Dating to the early 20th century, this is a fine old Isfahan rug with many lovely features. The light blue field is delightful and has a beautifully drawn design with layers of activity. A flowering urn of roses flanked by antlered deers lies within columns and a mihrab. The rest of the field is filled with more flowers and meandering vines and birds. It is all so elegant and engaging. The ivory outer field has further floral decoration and more birds, while the crimson main border frames the field composition with palmettes and meandering vines. However, my favourite feature of this rug are the minor inner and outer guard stripes which are filled with rows of miniature buildings, just so charming and absolutely sensational work. This rug will reward repeated viewings. One can enjoy it over and over again, a wonderful example of Persian weaving.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Isfahan rugs originate from central Persia and are distinguished by high knot density, detailed curvilinear scrollwork, and complex pictorial or floral compositions.

These carpets are hand-knotted using high-grade wool or silk pile onto a tightly spun cotton or silk foundation, allowing for precise pattern definition.

Authentic examples exhibit fine knotting, natural dye variations known as abrash, symmetrical alignment, and classical city-workshop design motifs.

A patterned Persian carpet serves as a focal point to anchor seating areas, pairing well with contemporary neutral furniture, polished floorboards, or traditional dark timber.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating brush, blot spills immediately with cool water, and utilize a high-quality rug pad to reduce wear.
