Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the late nineteenth century, these small silver boxes were commonly crafted for dressing tables to hold rings, pins, or small personal items. They frequently feature elaborate repousse work, scrolling foliate patterns, and gilded interiors.

Victorian silver boxes were typically crafted from sterling silver using repousse hammering and chasing techniques to create raised relief designs. The interiors were often finished with a gilding or gilt wash to protect the silver from oxidisation caused by cosmetics or moisture.

Authentic British silver items feature a full set of official hallmarks, including the makers mark, town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, standard mark lion passant, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of manufacture.

Place the box on a bedroom dressing table, marble bathroom counter, or entry console table as a refined accent piece for holding daily jewellery. Combining polished metal accents with natural materials like timber or stone creates balanced textural contrast.

Clean silver using a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish formulated specifically for historic metals, avoiding harsh chemical dips. To safeguard the gilt interior, refrain from applying liquid polishes inside and store the piece in a dry environment.
