Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency tryptic overmantel mirror is a wide, horizontal mirror designed during the early nineteenth century to sit directly above a chimneypiece. It features three separate glass sections divided by carved giltwood columns or mouldings, architectural cornices, and decorative friezes.

These mirrors were constructed using pine or lime wood frames, embellished with carved detail or composition ornament. The frame was finished with hand-applied gold leaf over red or yellow bole, while the glass plates were mercury silvered.

Authentic pieces feature three separate mirror glass plates rather than one continuous sheet, reflecting historical glass manufacturing limits. Examination of the reverse will show original wooden backboards, and the gilding will exhibit natural wear, lap marks, and subtle oxidation.

Position the mirror directly above a fireplace mantelpiece or atop a wide console table to create an architectural focal point. The low-profile, horizontal proportions serve to expand visual space and maximize light reflection in living rooms or dining halls.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth without applying liquid cleaners, which dissolve water-gilt surfaces. Clean the glass plates carefully with a slightly damp cloth, taking care not to let moisture seep into the frame edges.
