Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, Regency overmantel mirrors typically feature low-profile horizontal proportions designed to sit above chimney pieces, embellished with classical architectural details such as pilasters, rosettes, and breakfront cornices.

The frames were sculpted from softwoods like pine, coated with gesso and bole, and finished with gold leaf. Reflective plates were created using mercury glass, which combined tin foil and liquid mercury on hand-cast glass plates.

Genuine period pieces exhibit characteristic sparkling or dark speckled oxidisation within the silvering, known as foxing, alongside hand-planed timber backboards and fine irregularities in the hand-carved gilded frame.

Placing a horizontal giltwood mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or atop a low console table provides geometric structure and amplifies natural light, anchoring the room without overwhelming modern furnishings.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding water or liquid cleaners that dissolve water-gesso bases, and wipe the glass plate using a dampened microfibre cloth without spraying moisture near the frame edges.
