We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Louis XV commode is defined by asymmetrical Rococo curves, bombee or serpentine silhouettes, cabriole legs, and elaborate cast ormolu or bronze mounts. These pieces typically feature decorative timber veneers, such as parquetry or marquetry, and are fitted with contoured marble tops.

18th-century French commodes were constructed with a oak or pine carcass overlaid with exotic timber veneers like kingwood, rosewood, tulipwood, or walnut. Tops were fitted with thick, shaped marble slabs, and decorative fittings were cast in bronze and frequently gilt with gold.

Authentic period commodes display hand-sawn timber drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and evidence of original chassis construction beneath the marble. Original pieces often feature stamps from master cabinetmakers (ebenistes) or guild marks on the frame.

A Rococo commode serves as a focal point when placed against a neutral wall in an entryway, dining room, or bedroom. Modern styling balances its ornate curves by pairing it with simple contemporary artwork, minimal lighting, or clean-lined mirrors above the marble top.

Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner designed for natural stone to prevent etching from acidic liquids. Protect the timber veneer from direct sunlight and humidity fluctuations, and dust bronze mounts using a soft, dry brush without harsh chemicals.
