Regency Rosewood Side Table

19th century
Description

A striking Regency period rosewood hall or side table of exceptional quality and elegant design. The beautifully figured rectangular top, with softly rounded corners, displays the rich grain and lustrous patina typical of fine rosewood. An especially notable feature is the pair of unusual frieze end drawers, providing discreet and practical storage while maintaining the table’s clean and balanced lines.

The table is raised on twin pedestal supports with reeded columns and scroll-carved brackets, joined by a turned stretcher for added stability. The shaped bases are finished with brass leaf-cast caps and original castors, completing this refined example of early 19th-century craftsmanship.

A versatile and decorative piece, ideal as a hall, sofa, or side table — offering both functionality and timeless Regency elegance.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency side tables, produced roughly between 1811 and 1830 in Britain, are characterised by classical proportions, refined neoclassical influences, and the prominent use of rich exotic timbers such as rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era favoured dark rosewood, mahogany, and brass fittings, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, trestle end supports, and cast brass castors.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit distinct characteristics including rich grain figure, hand-planed secondary timbers like pine or oak, hand-cast brass hardware, and construction methods consistent with early nineteenth-century cabinetmaking.

A Regency rosewood table integrates into modern living rooms or hallways when placed beside a sofa, positioned in an entryway, or styled with contemporary lamps and minimal decorative objects to contrast the historic wood grain.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement and finish deterioration, dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the direction of the grain.
