Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in eighteenth-century France during the reign of Louis XV, Rococo style features elaborate scrollwork, acanthus leaves, asymmetrical curves, and floral motifs. Frames were typically constructed from carved wood or molded gesso, finished with gold leaf gilding or painted surfaces.

Traditional frames were crafted using carved softwood or lime wood coated in layers of gesso plaster. Gold leaf was applied using water or oil gilding techniques over red or yellow bole, while the reflective surface comprised silvered or mercury-backed glass.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-carved wooden joinery, natural wear or oxidisation on the gilded gesso surface, and irregularities or foxing in the mirror glass. The reverse usually reveals hand-sawn wooden backboards secured with forged nails.

A Rococo mirror can be placed above a contemporary sideboard or fireplace mantel to create visual contrast between historical ornamentation and clean architectural lines. Mounting the frame against neutral or muted painted walls highlights the detailed cream and gold tones.

Dust the frame lightly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth, avoiding water or chemical cleaning solutions on gilded gesso. Clean the mirror glass separately by dampening a cloth directly rather than spraying solution onto the frame edge.
