We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Jacobean Revival furniture from the 1920s recreates 17th-century English woodwork, featuring heavy oak construction, dark finishes, and geometric mouldings. These pieces often incorporate turned spindles, stretchers, and panelled fronts to reflect historic craftsmanship.

These bureaux were predominantly crafted from solid oak or oak veneers over pine frames, complemented by solid brass drop handles or teardrop pulls. Dovetailed drawer joints and mortise and tenon joinery were standard structural elements of the era.

Authentic 1920s pieces typically show genuine wear around the writing flap hinges, natural oxidisation on original brass hardware, and period-appropriate drawer construction. Look for geometric applied mouldings and turned legs characteristic of interwar manufacturing.

Place the bureau against a neutral or dark painted wall in a study or hallway to highlight its rich timber grain. Complement the dark wood with brass desk lighting, contemporary ceramics, and minimalist wall art to balance traditional forms with modern aesthetic elements.

Keep the oak surface clean using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing the furniture near direct heat sources or in fluctuating humidity to prevent the timber from cracking or warping.
