Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, cast iron and brass doorstops, often referred to as door porters, became popular functional decorative items for British homes. Designs frequently featured equestrian themes, mythological figures, animals, and heraldic motifs.

Traditional nineteenth-century door porters were primarily manufactured from cast brass or cast iron, occasionally filled with lead to provide additional weight. Castings were finished with hand-tooling or polishing to refine surface details.

Authentic period pieces usually exhibit natural patina, wear to high points, and casting marks consistent with historic foundry methods. Hand-chiselled detail work and oxidation in recessed areas further indicate age.

A cast brass equestrian doorstop can be positioned beside a fireplace hearth, on a hallway floor, or used as a bookend on a low shelf or console table. Its warm metallic tones contrast effectively with timber flooring or stone hearths.

To maintain the original patina, wipe the brass surface gently with a soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners or chemical polishes, which can strip away historic patination and surface character.
