Art Deco Pivoting Chrome 8 Day Clock, C1930s

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

Marked as foreign this wonderful clock offers everything an Art Deco admirer will appreciate. The movement runs on eight days and keeps good time having been fully serviced by our horologist. The casing is chrome with a silvered dial behind the glass, accentuated with a soft very pale yellow enamel border. The base is engraved to Ruth, a good old fashioned name and indicates it was likely gifted to someone special. The overall condition is great, little to no wear to the dial. Only the base & back plate seems to reflect the clocks age but nothing unsightly and mentioned only for accuracy, see images.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco clock design, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric shapes, clean lines, bold numerals, and modern industrial materials such as polished chrome, bakelite, and glass.

Clocks from the 1930s often featured chrome plating over metal bases, paired with enamel or silvered dials and mechanical eight-day wind-up movements.

Authentic period clocks generally feature mechanical movements, distinct 1930s typography, angular or swivel frames, and appropriate maker or country origin markings stamped on the dial.

Place the timepiece on a polished wood desk, modern mantelpiece, or bookshelf to allow the reflective chrome finish and geometric frame to create visual contrast.

Dust the exterior regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive liquid cleaners that could strip chrome plating, and have mechanical movements serviced periodically by a qualified horologist.
