A tilt-top silver table, popularised in 18th-century England, is an occasional table featuring a hinged circular top that folds vertically when not in use. Originally designed to display silver tea services or conserve floor space in Georgian drawing rooms, these tables frequently feature piecrust edges and carved tripod bases.

Georgian tilt-top tables were predominantly constructed from solid West Indian mahogany due to its dense grain, rich colouring, and durability. Construction techniques included hand-dovetailed snap latches, hand-turned pedestal columns, and hand-carved tripod legs secured with iron strap plates underneath.

Authentic 18th-century examples display irregular hand-planed underside surfaces, original brass catch mechanisms, and age-appropriate shrinkage to the circular top, often causing it to warp slightly out of a perfect circle. Additionally, inspect the tripod base joinery for hand-cut wooden pegs and original iron bearers.
