18th Century Georgian Mahogany Tripod Table

18th century
Description

A Mid 18th Century Georgian Mahogany Wine Table, Or Occasional Lamp Table, Having Well Figured Circular Tilting Top, Retaining Good Colour & Patina, Raised On Elegant Gun Barrel Turned Central Stem, Terminating With Tripod Legs And Unusual Manx Design Inspired Feet.

A lovely mid 18th century table which boasts elegant form as well as great function of course. The simplicity of design and well figured timber, in combination with the good colour and surface creates real elegance. Another feature of note is the very unusual humped feet which appear to have been inspired by rarely found and extremely sought after manx designs.

Its a good useful size, perfect for a lamp and some photo frames, or perching a drink, or any other function which one requires.

Overall the condition is good. As mentioned before it retains a good colour and patina. Within that patina are a few old marks, scuffs, scrapes etc which have blended nicely into the surface and help create that lovely untouched surface. Structurally the table is very much sound and solid with no concerns at all in that respect.

As with all items we offer for sale this Georgian Mahogany Table has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, specialist trained, antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale to ensure that it is in excellent condition and ready for immediate placement within the home.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian tripod table is an occasional table originating from the 18th century, characterized by a central turned pedestal supported by three outward-curving cabriole or pad-foot legs, frequently topped with a circular surface.

Primary cabinet woods during the Georgian era included dense Cuban mahogany, walnut, and oak, crafted using traditional hand-planed joinery, hand-cut dovetails, and iron latches or wooden block mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature irregular hand-turned column profiles, signs of wood shrinkage leading to slightly oval tops over time, hand-forged iron underside brackets, and original patination on unexposed timber areas.

Position a tripod table alongside an armchair or sofa to function as a compact drink stand, reading table, or accent piece paired with modern lighting and ceramic accessories.

Maintain the surface by applying natural beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, keeping the item away from direct heat sources, and dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth.
