Rare William IV Rosewood Partners Desk

19th century
For Sale by LTANTIQUES.CO.UK
Description

This exceptional and rare William IV rosewood partners desk is a true statement piece of refined English craftsmanship, dating from the early 19th century. Presented in superb showroom condition and constructed in a beautiful rich rosewood.

One side boasts a pair of cupboards, offering generous concealed storage, with 2 drawers above.

The other side is equipped with 2 drawers along the top and a further 2 drawers on either pedestal, all pull smoothly with brass ring handles.

Crowning the desk is a new hand-dyed green leather inset writing surface, bordered with an elegant gold tooling that complements the rich tones of the rosewood beautifully. This fine leather top has been hand dyed using traditional method to create a unique emerald green colour, and provides a smooth and durable surface.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A William IV partners desk is a double-fronted pedestal desk crafted during the 1830s, designed with working drawers or cupboards on both sides to allow two people to work face-to-face simultaneously.

These desks typically feature rich timber veneers such as rosewood or mahogany, paired with a gold-tooled leather writing surface and cast brass hardware.

Authentic William IV pieces demonstrate transitional styling between Regency and Victorian eras, characterised by substantial proportions, fine wood grain, reeded or gadrooned mouldings, and period-correct brass fittings.

Position the desk centrally in a room rather than against a wall, allowing the finished rear facade and twin pedestals to serve as a focal point in a study or library.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and condition the leather inset periodically with specialised wax.
