Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An architects desk, also known as a drafting table, emerged in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to accommodate technical drawing, reading, and writing. Featuring adjustable ratcheted tops and integrated ledges, these tables allowed professionals to work while standing or seated at tailored angles.

Craftspeople utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and oak, often paired with brass ratchets, hinges, and castors. Construction featured hand-cut dovetail joints, carved pedestal legs, and leather-lined writing surfaces designed for durability and functionality.

Authentic period examples exhibit distinct wood grain patterns characteristic of genuine rosewood, original brass adjustment mechanisms, and hand-carved decorative motifs. Look for period-appropriate wear on ratchet mechanisms, original castors, and traditional joinery rather than modern screws.

An architects desk serves as a functional focal point in a dedicated home office, library, or studio. Pair it with a classic leather desk chair and neutral architectural decor to highlight its rich timber tone and sculptural silhouette.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying, warping, or veneer lift. Apply high-quality beeswax occasionally to maintain the grain, and avoid forcing the ratchet adjustment mechanisms.
