Fine George III Stick Barometer by Blunt, London

A fine quality slim proportioned George III figured mahogany stick barometer by highly regarded maker Thomas Blunt, London, maker to George III, in superb condition c.1820. Swan neck pediment to the top with bone pateras and finial. Hinged glazed door with reeded edge to the frame, sat over a silvered scale with mercury barometer tube set to the centre, plus bone cap to the top and to the vernier marker. The slim trunk with moulded edge and choice cut figured mahogany veneers, original turned cistern cover to the base with brass locking nut below. Thomas Blunt was a highly regarded instrument maker and was apprentice to Edward Nairne in 1760. He later formed a partnership with Nairne and traded as Nairn & Blunt until 1822 (although Nairne died in 1806) and is noted as a mathematical instrument maker to George III. This example in superb condition with no damage or repairs to the case work, a rich colour and polish with the movement fully overhauled and working. Keep up to date via Instagram - sturmansantiques.
