Sturmans Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
Mercury barometer tube to the centre of the scale, visible to the trunk with decorative brass securing bands; cistern to the base behind the turned cover. The scale engraved with the makers name James Pratt, Askrigg, a well known and collected Wensleydale clock maker (1787 - 1850). Presumably this instrument was specially commissioned as he was not noted as a barometer maker. Presented in excellent condition with a rich colour and polish to the case, the metalwork polished and the movement fully overhauled and working. Keep up to date via Instagram - sturmansantiques. Measures 40" long x 5.5" maximum width x 3.25" wide at the trunk x 2" maximum depth.
