Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Prayer rugs traditionally function as clean surfaces for Islamic prayer, featuring a directional design centred around an arched niche known as a mihrab. Historically woven in regional weaving centres across Persia, Anatolia, and the Caucasus, these textiles often incorporate symbolic floral, pictorial, and geometric motifs.

Traditional prayer rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile on a cotton or wool foundation warp and weft. Artisans utilised natural vegetable and insect dyes, resulting in varied colour tones known as abrash throughout the woven pile.

Authentic antique examples display irregular hand-knotted weave patterns on the reverse side and gentle variations in dye shading. Additional indicators include hand-bound selvedges, natural wool wear patterns, and directional motifs such as mihrab arches or vase designs.

A pair of small prayer rugs can be arranged symmetrically beside a bed or layered over a neutral woven flatweave carpet in a living area. Alternatively, these pictorial textiles can be mounted on walls or hung using specialist tapestry mounts to highlight their intricate detail.

Regular care requires gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar to prevent fibre damage. Professional cleaning should be undertaken by specialised antique rug conservators, and rugs should be rotated periodically to balance exposure to foot traffic and sunlight.
