A Scottish George II Mahogany Occasional Table

Description

A George II mahogany tripod occasional table, probably made in the Dundee area, the circular plum pudding mahogany tip up top on a gun barrel column and distinctive pierced tripod legs. A number of these tables have turned up in the Dundee, Carse of Gowrie area and all have been made from fabulous top quality dense mahogany. They also bear a striking similarity in construction with an open box cage mechanism and pierced legs to tables from North Carolina, with examples in the Colonial Wiliamsburg Museum.
