18th Century Corner Cabinet on Later Stand

18th century
Description

18th Century Corner Cabinet on Later Stand

A charming 18th century oak corner cabinet featuring a panelled front and three fixed, shaped internal shelves—ideal for display or storage. This piece sits on a later, sympathetically matched stand, making it a marriage of two elements that complement each other beautifully.

The oak has developed a rich, warm patina over centuries of use, adding to its character and appeal. There is a small puncture to the wood at the back, but this is minor and does not detract from the cabinet’s overall presentation. Evidence of historic woodworm is visible; however, it is inactive and has been professionally treated.

The later base features plain legs and a shaped under tier, providing both stability and additional storage or display space. Versatile and full of period charm, this cabinet would suit a variety of rooms and interior styles.

Dimensions - W78cm (right/left) x D44cm (centre)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian corner cupboards were popular 18th-century space-saving storage solutions, often crafted from solid oak or mahogany, designed to fit flush into room corners to display or store household items.

18th-century corner cabinets were typically constructed from solid oak, pine, or walnut, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged timber construction, fielded panel doors, and brass or iron hinges.

Authentic period corner cabinets feature hand-sawn backboards, irregular joint construction, original H-hinges or hand-forged hardware, and natural timber shrinkage or surface oxidisation consistent with age.

Position the cupboard in an underutilised corner of a dining room, hallway, or living space to add architectural depth while storing glassware, ceramics, or household essentials.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the piece away from direct radiators or damp conditions.
