PAUL LEON JAZET (1848-1918); oil on panel ''Bachhaus'' (Bakehouse) study of a Soldier / Pikeman leaning upon on archway with further figures drinking beyond, signed P Jazet 1874 [bottom right]. Beautifully painted with soldier in full dress-costume, and fascinating graffiti to stone archway.

Excellent condition in gilt frame - [Bonhams 2005].

*Paul-Léon Jazet (13 June 1848 – 1918) was a French painter born in Paris, the son of the engraver Alexandre-Jean-Louis Jazet (1814–21 February 1897). For much of his career, he was mostly known for genre scenes, portraits and military subjects.
