Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian silver gilt flatware refers to sterling silver dining utensils produced during the reigns of Kings George I through IV (17141830) that were electro-gilded or mercury-gilded with a layer of gold. Gilding was used both to show status and to protect the silver from reacting with acidic foods.

These items were forged from standard British sterling silver (92.5% purity) and finished with fire-gilding, a process involving gold leaf dissolved in mercury to apply a layer of karat gold to the surface.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks stamped into the silver, including the lion passant mark, a town mark, a monarchs profile duty mark, and a date letter. Natural wear on the gilding, revealing the silver beneath on raised points, is also characteristic of genuine period pieces.

Silver gilt spoons can be styled as decorative accents on a dining sideboard inside a velvet-lined display tray or arranged within a glass glazed cabinet to add historical metalwork interest to a room.

Wash silver gilt items gently in warm water with mild detergent and dry thoroughly with a non-abrasive soft cloth. Avoid silver polishes and harsh chemicals, as aggressive cleaning can strip the delicate gilded layer from the underlying silver.
