Pair Edwardian Cut Lead Crystal Wine Glasses C1900

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Aramis Antiques
Description

A pair of Edwardian cut lead crystal wine glasses c1900. Following the earlier Georgian style of a rummer, this pair of glasses shows more advanced techniques in the wide slice cut work on the bowl and the upper circular cut band of a stylised branch of leaves within outer lines. The glasses are substantial in weight, have a good ting denoting the lead content, have a short baluster stem and a pontil cut base. One glass is minutely heavier and lower than the other, typical of them being hand blown, but the difference is tiny and they still make a pair. Excellent condition, no damage.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian glassware, produced between 1901 and 1910, shifted away from the heavy cut patterns of the Victorian period towards lighter, refined wheel-cut engravings, delicate festoons, and geometric facet patterns.

Pieces were crafted from high-clarity lead glass, created by introducing lead oxide into the molten glass mixture to increase light refraction, weight, and resonance when struck.

Authentic pieces feature crisp wheel-cut or engraved patterns, hand-finished rim contours, subtle variations inherent to hand-blowing, and soft wear ring patterns on the underside of the base.

These pieces can be integrated into modern dining tablescapes, arranged alongside contemporary decanters on a sideboard, or displayed within glazed cabinetry or open shelving.

Lead crystal should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid dishwashers and hot water extremes, and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth to maintain clarity.
