Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III supper table is a British table produced during the reign of King George III (17601820), designed primarily for informal dining or serving light refreshments. Many examples feature a tilt-top mechanism mounted on a central column with tripod legs, allowing the table surface to fold vertically when not in use.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, prized for stability and rich grain. Decorative elements often incorporated exotic wood crossbanding, such as rosewood or satinwood, along with brass castors or brass paw feet.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, hand-planed underside surfaces, and original iron or brass catch mechanisms under the tabletop. The wear on the tripod legs, central pedestal, and brass castors should align with natural age and historical use.

A Georgian supper table functions as a versatile occasional table in a living area or entrance hall. When the top is tilted upright, it serves as a decorative backdrop showing off wood grain and crossbanding, while lowered it accommodates table lamps, books, or tea service.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Protect the finish by applying beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year and placing the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators.
