Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

British landscape painting in the 19th century focused on naturalistic representations of rural scenes, rivers, and woodlands. Influenced by Romanticism and the Royal Academy tradition, artists emphasised atmosphere, natural lighting, and topographical detail.

Paintings from this era were created using ground mineral pigments bound in drying oils, such as linseed oil, applied onto stretched cotton or linen canvas, or rigid wooden panels. Frames were typically carved wood finished with gold leaf or plaster gesso.

Authentic period paintings show natural age-related craquelure across the paint surface, oxidisation on the reverse of the canvas, and hand-cut wooden stretcher bars. Signatures or gallery labels on the reverse also assist in attribution.

Landscape paintings function as focal points when hung individually above a sideboard or mantelpiece. They can also be integrated into a gallery wall, paired with neutral walls or dark wood panelling to complement the natural colour palette.

Artworks should be kept away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity. Dusting should be performed gently with a soft dry brush, and professional conservation is recommended for varnish removal or structural repair.
