Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed in the eighteenth century, card tables became essential social furniture in Georgian homes for playing games such as whist and ombre. Thomas Chippendale popularized fold-over demilune and rectangular tables featuring cabriole legs, shell carvings, and ball-and-claw feet.

Traditional card tables are constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring hinged fold-over tops supported by a rotating gateleg or swing-leg mechanism. The interiors often contain green baize playing surfaces, while the exterior legs display hand-carved detailing.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on the aprons, hand-carved cabriole legs terminating in defined claw and ball feet, and natural wear around the hinge points. The wood exhibits an uneven, aged patina and timber shrinkage consistent with natural aging.

When folded closed, a demilune card table functions as a console table in a hallway, entryway, or dining space. Placing a decorative mirror above the table and pairing it with ceramic vases or table lamps highlights its architectural lines.

Position the table away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent wood movement or veneer lifting. Treat the timber regularly with a high-grade beeswax polish and support the hinged top fully when opening or closing.
