Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Scotch chest is a traditional Scottish design dating from the 19th century, typically characterised by its substantial proportions, deep central hat drawer, and arrangement of smaller upper drawers above standard full-width drawers.

These chests were predominantly constructed using solid and veneered mahogany, frequently featuring boxwood stringing, pine secondary timber drawer linings, and turned wooden knobs or brass lion-mask handles.

Authentic Regency examples display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, period locks, a deep central drawer designed for top hats, natural timber shrinkage lines, and period-correct secondary woods such as Scots pine or oak.

Place the chest against a neutral or boldly painted backdrop to highlight the rich timber tones, pairing it with contemporary artwork, simple ceramic lamps, or modern sculptural objects on top.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, while avoiding direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity.
