Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bisque porcelain, or biscuit porcelain, is unglazed ceramic that has undergone a single firing process, resulting in a matt, stone-like texture. During the Victorian period, manufacturers across Europe produced detailed figurative groups using this medium, often hand-decorating them with pastel enamels and gilding for decorative display.

These figures were produced by pouring liquid clay slip into complex multi-part plaster moulds. Once cast and dried, details were hand-carved before the initial kiln firing, followed by precise hand-painting with mineral-based pigments and gilded accents prior to a second lower-temperature firing.

Authentic period pieces exhibit precise facial molding, realistic drape in the clothing, and a distinctive smooth, non-reflective finish. Look for impressed alphanumeric mould numbers on the base, soft hand-applied colour washes, and age-consistent wear to gilding or raised enamel details.

Place the object as a standalone focal point inside a glazed display cabinet, atop a mantelpiece, or within a curated shelf arrangement. Juxtaposing structured antique ceramics with minimalist, clean-lined modern furniture creates a sophisticated contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry artist brush to clean fine crevices without abrading delicate surface paint. Avoid immersing bisque porcelain in water or using liquid detergents, as porous unglazed ceramic can absorb moisture and damage gilded or cold-painted elements.
