Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th century work table, often termed a ladies work box, was designed as a compact piece of accent furniture used primarily for storing needlework, sewing implements, and personal items. Popularised in 18th and 19th-century France, these tables feature decorative wood veneers and ornate metal mounts.

These pieces typically feature fine wood veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, or tulipwood arranged in parquetry or marquetry patterns. The decorative trim and corner mounts consist of ormolu, which is gilded bronze cast with detailed scrollwork or foliate motifs.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display hand-cut joinery, dovetail drawer construction, and heavy cast bronze mounts secured from behind with original threaded screws. The ormolu usually exhibits natural patina, minor surface oxidisation, and precise hand-chased detailing.

A French revival side table serves as a focal accent alongside contemporary minimalist furniture or tailored upholstery. Placing it beside a sofa, in an entryway, or beside a bed introduces visual contrast and historical depth.

Maintain wood surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish sparingly. Avoid chemical liquid cleaners on ormolu mounts, wiping them gently with a dry cloth to protect the gilded surface.
