Description

Embroidered in coloured silks on a saffron yellow silk background, this pretty suzani has an elegantly drawn floral border and niche, while the field is undecorated. This format is often mistaken for a prayer design, but it is more likely to be an decorative architectural device, to be used as a room divider, or over a doorway or possibly a mirror. Note the charming calligraphy in the borders. One could imagine this piece working well in many settings, both traditional and contemporary. Lined with a beautiful Russian chintz. In good condition.
