Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French carriage clock is a small, spring-driven portable timepiece developed in France during the early nineteenth century for travellers. These clocks typically feature a rectangular brass case with glass side panels, a top carrying handle, and an enamel dial.

Traditional carriage clocks are constructed primarily from solid brass, which may be gilded or lacquered, alongside bevelled glass panels. The dials are made from fired enamel over copper, accompanied by blued steel clock hands.

Authentic 1890s French carriage clocks feature heavy brass cases with precise joinery, bevelled glass plates, and stamped maker marks or serial numbers on the rear movement plate. The dials typically display painted Roman or Arabic numerals on fired white enamel.

Place the carriage clock on a fireplace mantelpiece, bookshelf, or executive desk alongside structured accessories such as leather-bound books or framed prints. The metallic brass tones contrast well against dark or muted backdrop walls.

Keep the clock in a dry environment free from temperature fluctuations to prevent movement condensation and metal oxidisation. Dust the brass case and glass panels gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive metal polishes on original lacquered surfaces.
